The transaction involving the acquisition of a\u00a050% equity stake in JTSD Braunkohlebergbau GmbH, which EP\u00a0ENERGY has bought from Severo\u010desk\u00e9 doly in the \u010cEZ Group, was closed today. JTSD is the sole shareholder of MIBRAG. EP\u00a0ENERGY has thus become the 100% owner of MIBRAG, which operates 2\u00a0brown coal mines, 3\u00a0conventional cogeneration plants and a\u00a0wind farm in Germany.<\/b><\/p>\n
\u201cThe acquisition of MIBRAG is part of our long-term strategic plan to boost our activities in the German energy sector. This step helps to pursue the strategy of EP\u00a0Energy\u2019s vertical integration, i.e., covering the whole value chain from extraction to energy generation and supply to end customers,\u201d said Jan \u0160pringl, CEO and member of the Board of Directors of EP\u00a0ENERGY.<\/p>\n
This transaction has followed up on the closing of the sale of a\u00a0100% interest in ENERGOTRANS, a.s., to \u010cEZ, which took place yesterday, 28 June 2012. Thus, ENERGOTRANS is now wholly owned by \u010cEZ, a.s.<\/p>\n
The required approvals were obtained from the relevant antimonopoly authorities prior to the finalisation of the two transactions.<\/p>\n
MIBRAG is the third largest mining company in Germany. It extracts coal in the central German coal basin south of Leipzig, where it operates two open-cast coal mines, Profen and\u00a0Vereinigten Schleenhain, with a\u00a0total annual production of brown coal of 20\u00a0million\u00a0tonnes. The reserves under the existing mining licence hold approximately 500\u00a0million tonnes of coal.<\/p>\n
MIBRAG also owns three cogeneration plants at Deuben, Mumsdorf and W\u00e4hlitz having a\u00a0total installed electrical capacity of 208 MW.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0MIBRAG subsidiary operates a\u00a06.9 MW wind farm in Schleenhain and is preparing a\u00a0further expansion of its RES capacities.<\/p>\n
EP\u00a0ENERGY is a\u00a0vertically integrated energy utility covering the complete value chain from coal extraction to combined heat and power generation to electricity and gas supply for final customers.<\/p>\n
