Energetick\u00fd a pr\u016fmyslov\u00fd holding, a.s. (EPH) has invested approximately \u20ac 700 million (over 18 billion CZK) into renewable resources over the past two years according to the newly published Sustainability Report, which is the third such report describing activities of the EPH Group in the area of sustainable development. “A significant fact is that EPH\u2018s owned and co-owned power plants in Italy, the UK and Germany increased their power production in a cogeneration mode by 38%, while reducing emissions by 19%. I would also point out that EPH succeeds in reducing emissions at a significantly higher rate than the average in the EU,”<\/em> says Pavel Horsk\u00fd, Member of the Board and Chief Financial Officer of EPH.<\/p>\n

The reduction of the emission burden is a result of an expansion of the fleet comprising renewable or low-emission sources and a gradual decommissioning of coal-fired power plants (e.g. Eggborough, Buschhaus). Recently, EPH, for example, acquired solid biomass-fired power plants Biomasse Italia and Biomasse Crotone based in Italy, launched the final phase of the project of converting the coal-fired power plant Lynemouth into a biomass-fired power plant and invested in gas-fired power plants Langage and South Humber Bank in the UK.<\/p>\n

In many regions, EPH is an important employer, currently employing nearly 25,000 people.<\/p>\n

The infrastructure part of the holding, which is concentrated in the EP Infrastructure Group, operates indispensable critical networks ensuring the transit of natural gas and distribution of gas, electricity and heat. Part of the electricity production is covered by EPH\u2019s subholding EP Power Europe, whose resources are able to produce electricity according to market requirements and thus compensate unstable electricity supplies from renewable sources.<\/p>\n

Another important area of the group is the EPH Foundation, operating especially in Slovakia, which distributed over 749 thousand euros among 222 projects and another 602 thousand euros to support partnering programs.<\/p>\n
